“Every breath you take and every move you make…I’ll be watching you.” Welcomed into the world as Gordon Sumner of Wallsend, England only to later be known as Sting to his adoring fans, Sting showed an early interest in music as a child but ultimately took the more practical route and became a teacher instead. Spending every minute of his free time outside the classroom playing jazz with various bands, Sting showed exceptional talent and was even quite memorable with his signature black and yellow sweater that earned him his nickname. Although he eventually stopped wearing the sweater, his passion for music continued as he exchanged math books and spelling bees for music and lyrics.
Moving from Newcastle to London in 1977, Sting saw his dreams come true when he teamed up with Henry Padovani and Stewart Copeland to form The Police. With five chart-topping albums between 1978 and 1983, the band was a huge success known for hits like “Every Breath You Take,” “Roxanne” and “Message in a Bottle,” to name a few. By 1984, Sting took a huge risk and launched his solo career with his debut album, The Dream of the Blue Turtles. The risk paid off with Sting finding even more success on his own with his accomplishments including 16 Grammy Awards, a Golden Globe and an Emmy as well as three Academy Award nominations. That doesn’t include his impressive $300 million net worth, most of which he gives back to those in need.
Beyond his music and philanthropy frequently landing him in media headlines, Sting has spent the last decade at the center of plastic surgery rumors especially after his face appeared to be more defined and with fewer wrinkles in his late 50s. Today, the 65-year-old still doesn’t show many signs of aging, which has only caused an even bigger whirlwind of rumors. While many argue that Sting’s appearance has subtly changed over the years, his most loyal fans quickly come to his defense that he simply has good genes even though he’s been balding since his late 20s.
While Sting didn’t show many signs of aging just a few short years ago, that wasn’t the case in 2012 when he appeared with a few wrinkles around his forehead and across his cheeks. Not only that, his hair had thinned even more leaving many to call him “unrecognizable” saying that he finally started “looking his age, for once.” However, in the last four years those wrinkles have miraculously vanished just as Sting’s scruffy beard has returned. Coincidence or not?
Sting has grown a beard off and on throughout his career but it’s hard to deny that he’s been spotted with a beard more frequently as he ages and especially when plastic surgery rumors are on the rise. This has left critics to suggest that he’s using the beard to cover up any scarring from going under the knife which, as we all know, is a popular theory with male celebrities rumored to have had plastic surgery. What didn’t help Sting’s case, however, was the fact that his wife of 25 years, Truide Styler, made her own plastic surgery confession.
After an accident as an infant left her with scars on her face, Styler turned to Botox injections to hide the scarring and regain her confidence. Denying any other, more invasive work, she said, “So, I’ve had a lot of what’s called plastic surgery to my face, to my scars. And I have huge, huge respect for what that is.” With her praise finally out in the open, many wondered if her husband shared the same sentiment.
Throughout his 45-year career, Sting has said very little about his personal life when it comes to addressing the rumors that he’s ever gone under the knife. Instead, he’s constantly side-stepped the question by talking about his healthy lifestyle from his bedroom routine and sex life to his diet and exercise. Perhaps it’s his healthy sex life that’s keeping him looking so young, after all. Then again, that’s a story no one believes. In fact, many people within the music industry say that Sting’s rumored rhinoplasty is one of the worst kept secrets in the business! Ouch!
Regardless of the rumors and wild headlines about Sting aging gracefully or not, fans don’t seem to mind that their favorite British crooner might have had a few things nipped, tucked, tightened or tweaked. In fact, Sting is still one of the most successful singers of all time who can certainly afford to do whatever he wants with a cool $300 million in the bank. And, with no plans to stop touring anytime soon, it’s safe to say that he doesn’t feel or act his age as he kicks off a new trip around the world in Las Vegas that runs through the end of 2017, which just goes to show that age is only a number after all.
