“I’m very lucky in that I have a good cosmetic surgeon.” With her dad as a music promoter and rock and roll entrepreneur in London, Sharon Levy knew the music industry inside and out, which is part of what attracted her to Black Sabbath singer Ozzy Osbourne. When Ozzy was fired from the band in 1979, his wild lifestyle and obvious addiction didn’t scare Sharon away as she took over managing Ozzy with the hopes of rekindling his career. Marrying in 1982 amid Ozzy’s incredible success as a solo artist with sold-out world tours and a series of chart-topping albums, Sharon has managed her husband ever since and is the brains behind some of his greatest moments of the last three decades including the widely popular Ozzfest.
Recognizing her talent with Ozzy’s success, Sharon started managing a few other bands in the 1990s including The Smashing Pumpkins and Motorhead. However, outside of being “Mrs. Osbourne,” she wasn’t a household name in the industry. Luckily, this changed in the new millennium when Sharon stepped into the spotlight with her family as the star of MTV’s reality series The Osbournes from 2002 to 2005. Showcasing the life of her entire family from raging fights and name-calling to Ozzy’s odd behavior, Sharon was finally in the spotlight herself and has been ever since with gigs as a talent competition judge on America’s Got Talent and The X Factor as well as a cohost on the daytime series, The Talk.
Now more recognizable today than her husband with her signature red hair and million-dollar smile, Sharon looks much different than she did in the 1990s thanks to a lifetime of plastic surgery that all started with her waistline. After years of embracing her regality of being overweight and in charge (something she learned from her father), Sharon opted for a gastric lap-band in 1999 that left her 100 pounds lighter. While the surgery was not considered cosmetic, it ignited Sharon’s growing obsession with her looks and over $400,000 tied up in procedures to enhance her appearance, all of which she happily admits.
Unveiling the truth behind her changing appearance in her 2013 autobiography Unbreakable, Sharon confesses that she long ago lost count of the number of times she’s gone under the knife and explains why she did it in the first place and why she’s no longer proud of her surgical past. “There’s not much that I haven’t tweaked, stretched, peeled, lasered, veneered, enhanced or removed altogether,” Sharon wrote after admitting that she is “genuinely disturbed” by how many surgeries she’s had. So, what started it all?
Accustomed to being behind the scenes, reality television changed everything for Sharon who was unhappy with her appearance long before she found stardom and after she first opted for a breast reduction in the late 1970s. “I was fat and hairy with little legs and disproportionately large t**s,” she said. Then, to combat aging and her weight beyond the lap-band procedure, she opted for skin lifts on her arms and legs in addition to a tummy tuck. To reverse the signs of aging (and the stress of living with Ozzy, no doubt), she also had a series of facelifts and neck lifts.
With her incredible honesty regarding her looks serving to boost her fame and credibility over the years, Sharon’s opinion of plastic surgery drastically changed in 2013 after she revealed she had undergone a double mastectomy in November 2012. After learning she had an increased risk for breast cancer, Sharon decided to completely avoid the risk and left many to believe that she had finally learned to embrace her natural beauty. But, would it last?
Over the last year, Sharon has seemingly found her way back into the plastic surgeon’s office after she returned to her seat on The Talk looking puffier than usual. As if that wasn’t enough proof, viewers immediately took to social media where they couldn’t stop talking about the 64-year-old’s debut on The X Factor that left little doubt that she had opted for even more work. The criticism was harsh on Twitter with one person calling her new look an “annihilation” and another saying, “Sharon Osbourne has more plastic in her face than my credit card.”
The incredibly harsh criticism forced Sharon to look back on her history under the knife saying, “In a lot of shots, my face looks plastic and at certain angles I was like ‘Oh dear. Oh, I should not have done that. Oh, that’s a bad one.” Despite her regrets, she doesn’t shy away from regular injections claiming, “I think that Botox is one of the best things to be created in plastic surgery.” And, while she may have once sworm off future nips and tucks, it doesn’t seem like Sharon is done for good especially now that she’s even more famous than the Godfather of Heavy Metal himself.
