“Say hello to my little friend…” On the short list of the best actors to ever live, Al Pacino undoubtedly rises to the top of the list as a Lifetime Achievement Award recipient who has spent the last five decades wowing audiences and critics alike with his impeccable and versatile talent. Getting his start in basement plays in New York’s theatrical underground in the 1960s, the Manhattan native finally caught his first major break in the early 1970s when he was cast as Michael Corleone in the classic, The Godfather, which many consider to be the greatest film ever made.
In the decades following, Pacino has starred in dozens of blockbusters and earned numerous awards and nominations for films like Dick Tracy, Dog Day Afternoon and Scent of a Woman. He’s also proven his talents on stage as a two-time Tony Award winner making him one of only a few performers who have earned the Triple Crown of Acting—an Oscar, an Emmy and a Tony Award. Still going strong at 76 years old and with over 50 acting credits to his name, there’s still plenty of time for Pacino to win yet another crown. In the meantime, the legendary Hollywood bad boy is worried about his looks saying, “Vanity is definitely my favorite sin.”
Looking back at Pacino’s early work, it’s hard to imagine that the man who played Tony Montana would ever consider getting plastic surgery but, if the rumors are true, then Pacino’s history under the knife dates back to the 1990s. Experts who have studied Pacino’s appearance over the decades leave no question that the actor has opted for a few surgeries since he reached his 50th birthday. They claim he had a blepharoplasty to remove the wrinkles and sagging from around his eyes in addition to a forehead lift and a facelift, both of which came later. To maintain his look, physicians agree that Pacino opts for less intrusive and more frequent procedures like Botox or Juvederm to tighten his skin.
Since Pacino is now in his late 70s, fans expect him to have a few wrinkles and laugh lines on his face but two decades ago he was already showing deep wrinkles around his eyes and cheeks. Today, those wrinkles are gone and, if you take an even closer look, you’ll notice his nose looks different as well. What happened? Many argue that the talented actor and filmmaker turned to plastic surgery to ease the signs of aging after courting his girlfriend, Lucila Sola, who is only 37 years old, which just goes to prove that you’re only as young as you feel.
Throughout the 1990s when Pacino showed early signs of plastic surgery, fans weren’t as critical since he still looked like he was in his 50s. However, as he’s gotten closer and closer to his 80th birthday, it’s hard to hide that his face is starting to look more unnatural for his age. And, in true media form, the tabloids have been the first to criticize the “Godfather’s” wax-like appearance saying Pacino takes the title of “the worst male celebrity plastic surgeries” of all time.
With many people wondering what went wrong with the former heartthrob, the criticism doesn’t stop with Pacino’s face as his hairline has also become a hot topic in the media since most men start to show signs of thinning well before their 70s. Ironically enough, Pacino must be the exception as his thick head of salt-and-pepper hair has left many to assume that the You Don’t Know Jack star opted for a hair transplant to preserve his full head of hair. So, will we ever know the truth?
After five decades in Hollywood and dozens of awards, the seasoned actor has learned the art of strategically avoiding questions especially when it comes to his personal life and his history with plastic surgery. Then again, after amassing a $135 million net worth, snagging a gorgeous girlfriend and earning the title as one of the greatest actors to ever live, Pacino doesn’t have to answer to anyone about anything. After all, he is the godfather!
Regardless of whether we ever learn the truth about Pacino’s time in the operating room and under the knife is beside the point as his rumored plastic surgery obviously hasn’t affected his career in the least since he’s starred in seven movies in the last five years alone. With no signs of slowing down, the 76-year-old New Yorker has three more films in the works and is set to star in Dabka and Hangman in addition to playing the role of legendary gangster Jimmy Hoffa in Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated The Irishman. Whether Hoffa ever had any plastic surgery himself is another question for another day especially since his body has never been found. As for Pacino, we can only assume he’s had a few touch ups here and there.
