“I got my ticket for the long way ‘round. Two bottle ‘a whiskey for the way. And I sure would like some sweet company and I’m leaving tomorrow, what do ya say?” The daughter of an accountant and a history teacher from Portland, Maine, Anna Cooke Kendrick was born on August 9, 1985 and got her start as an actress when she was still a youngster after auditioning for and winning a string of roles in New York City theatre productions. She made her Broadway debut at 12 years old in the 1998 production of High Society and later made her film debut in Camp. In 2008, she turned heads for her performance as Jessica Stanley in the Twilight film series and went on to earn nominations at the Academy Awards, Golden Globe Awards, and the Screen Actors Guild Awards for her performance opposite George Clooney in Up in the Air.
Today, the 32-year-old actress, singer, and author has built an incredible reputation for her work in projects like Pitch Perfect, 50/50, End of Watch, and Into the Woods. She’s also proven her knack for comedy and has a huge following on Twitter where tweets like “Real question: What are the chances I make it through #BatmanvSuperman without blurting, ‘You guys should kiss though,’” keep fans coming back for more. Kendrick’s sense of humor and blatant honesty about herself (and real life) are exactly why fans look to her for makeup and beauty advice even if the Into the Woods star says she only just now started buying “grown up” skincare products for herself!

Kendrick has a long list of skincare products that she loves, but at the top of her list is the AKMD Balancing Foaming Cleanser ($36) that’s perfect for her oily skin. She follows up with the SK-II Facial Treatment Essence ($179), which acts like a toner. “I feel like I turn over a new layer of skin every time I use it,” she says. To avoid breakouts, Kendrick stays moisturized and alternates between the Kate Somerville Nourish Moisturizer ($20) and the Aveeno Smart Essentials Moisturizer with SPF 30 ($10). She also loves to use the Koh Gen Do Wipes ($43), which Kendrick swears by since they leave her face clean and moisturized without the sticky feeling that most wipes leave behind.
Kendrick’s night routine is similar to her morning routine and she’s recently added a few more “grown up” products like the La Mer Lifting Intensifier ($165) and Sisley’s Botanical D-Tox Detoxifying Night Treatment ($240). She also loves to massage her face and shoulders with Caudalie Divine Oil ($49).
Prior to big events, Kendrick puts her skincare routine in makeup artist Lisa Aharon’s skilled hands. Aharon likes to moisturize and prep Kendrick’s skin using the Vaseline Intensive Care Essential Healing Lotion ($24) before applying the Tom Ford Illuminating Primer ($75).

To enhance Kendrick’s milky skin and create a flawless canvas, Aharon applies the Tom Ford Traceless Foundation SPF 15 ($85) with the Tom Ford Cream Foundation Brush 02 ($73). She sets the foundation using Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder ($38) and highlights the top of her cheeks with Hourglass Ambient Lighting Power in Ethereal Light ($46). For color and contour, she uses the NARS Contour Blush in Olympia ($42) followed by Tarte’s Cheek Stain ($30) and the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Blush in Euphoric Vision ($36).
When Kendrick isn’t heading out to a movie premiere and does her makeup herself, she uses Bobbi Brown Long-Wear Even Finish Foundation ($46). “I actually blend the 0 and the 3.25 shades together because that’s what my makeup artist did for Into the Woods,” Kendrick says. “I would not have thought to blend two colors that aren’t side by side on the color spectrum, but it looks gorgeous.” Although she was initially hesitant to contour on her own, she uses NARS Contour Blush in Olympia ($42) and adds a touch of color to her cheeks by brushing on Jane Iredale’s Just Kissed Lip and Cheek Stain ($25).

“In my dreams, I have Keira Knightley’s eyebrows, but it’s just not in the cards for me, so I do what I can,” Kendrick says and that starts with the Japanese brand Suqqu Eyebrow Liquid Pen ($34), which she stocks up on anytime she’s in England. When Aharon is doing her makeup, the artist brushes Kendrick’s eyebrows and then uses Chantecaille Waterproof Brow Definer in Oak Brown ($36) and Glossier Boy Brow in Brown ($16).
For her eyes, Aharon keeps things simple with a matte shadow from Tom Ford’s Cocoa Mirage Palette Eyeshadow Quad ($85). Using all four shades to create depth, Aharon puts a modern spin on the look by blending in the Pat McGrath Labs Silver Metallic 005 ($75) over the top and in the corners. She then applies MAC Pro Long-Wear Eye Liner ($20) and Tarte Clay Paint Liner ($24) before measuring, trimming, and applying Eylure Luxe Silk Radiant Lashes ($12) with dark adhesive to Kendrick’s top lash line. Once the lashes are in place, she alternates between Kendrick’s favorite mascaras—the Covergirl Lash Blast Clump Crusher Mascara ($7) or the Clinique Lash Power Mascara ($16)—or Aharon’s personal favorites the Guerlain Maxi Lash ($32) and the Chantecaille Faux Cils Longest Lash Black Mascara ($72).
|Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil ($44)||Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm ($7)|
|Charlotte Tilbury Kissing Lipstick in Nude Kate ($25.30)||Hourglass Panoramic Long Wear Lip Liner in Eden ($30)|
“I’m not big on lip color, but I like to have a little bit of something,” Kendrick says as she tries bolder and bolder colors after using Burt’s Bees Tinted Lip Balm ($7) for the longest. “I stockpile every single color of the Tinted Lip Balm, even the discontinued ones,” she admits. “I can’t leave home without Sweet Violet; it looks like a deep shade but it’s light and really beautiful.”
Apart from Burt’s Bees, Kendrick uses Hourglass No. 28 Lip Treatment Oil ($44) to hydrate her lips and turns to Aharon to help her venture into bolder colors whenever she’s heading out to a big event or movie premiere. One of the makeup artist’s favorite techniques is outlining Kendrick’s lips using the Hourglass Panoramic Long Wear Lip Liner in Eden ($30) and then applying the Charlotte Tilbury Kissing Lipstick in Nude Kate ($25.30).

“I rarely get recognized. It’s always a shock when someone notices me. I always think they must be confusing me with someone else.” With her popularity soaring especially after she released her memoir, Scrappy Little Nobody, in 2016, it’s no surprise that Kendrick is becoming a beauty and fashion icon… and, why not? She’s absolutely stunning and incredibly talented! That means the 32-year-old actress, author, and singer is feeling braver about trying new makeup looks saying, “I play more with makeup now. I used to only wear, like pink lipstick, but now I know if I try a bolder lip the world is not going to end.”
While she’s more courageous and willing to try new things, that doesn’t mean Kendrick doesn’t fall victim to a few beauty faux pas and says her biggest struggle is with false lashes. “I’m getting better at doing my makeup, but I did try those individual lashes and they’re impossible,” she says. “One side of my lash ends up being regrettably heavy.” As for what current trend she would love to try, Kendrick is quick to answer: “Goldleaf. Obviously, I would never attempt this on myself, but I would love to try it.” Part of us hopes Kendrick tries it on her own simply for the hilarious tweets that would likely follow from the actress herself!
