Like many people trying to break into acting, Zoe Saldana was happy to take what she could get in the late 1990s, landing her first role in an episode of “Law & Order” where she played a murder suspect’s daughter. It wouldn’t take long for Saldana to draw a lot more attention, as she was cast in the film “Center Stage”, and then in the Britney Spears film “Crossroads”.
After playing some minor roles in bigger films throughout much of the rest of the 2000s, Saldana would have a massive year to close out the decade. In 2009, Saldana played starring roles in both “Star Trek” and “Avatar”, making her a household name. Since then, Saldana has been a huge draw with films such as “Colombiana” and the Avengers series where she plays Gamora of the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Saldana might not be playing characters that are known for wearing glasses, but the actress herself undoubtedly looks great when she’s wearing them, and everybody knows it. Ever since she became a star, people have looked to her for styling tips, especially in the eyewear department. That’s why in 2012, LensCrafters featured her in a series of ads wearing a lot of different frames. Unlike most of us, she was able to make all of them look good.
The campaign was known as the myLook series, where she showed off some of her favorite frames that included the classic cat-eye look, some rectangular crimson red frames and also the tortoise shell look that’s come back in popularity. You have to believe that stars such as Saldana have played a role in that.
Saldana also gave a look into her preferred eyewear during the campaign, saying that “I think it’s very important to have glasses that sort of reflect or enhance your character.” She added that “I have the sexy ones, the studious ones…(being) the girl that I am, I’m also looking for the Jackie O’s, or the Audrey Hepburn sort of look.”
Some of Saldana’s favorite frames come from DKNY and Nicole Miller. Starting with the former, DKNY frames that Saldana’s been spotted wearing include the 4609 frames and 5553 1081. For the 4609 frames, you can get Saldana’s look for a pretty reasonable price, as the cost starts out at $60 and hardly goes over $80 in most stores. For the 5553 1081 frames, you can find them online for about $30. That’s not a lot of money to look like one of your favorite and stylish stars.
The Nicole Miller frames that Saldana prefers include the Under Wraps and Edgy frames. These frames can be a little harder to find online compared to the DKNY brands, which means the prices are a little bit higher. There are certainly people that are willing to pay the extra cost to emulate Saldana, though.
When Saldana is out and about in the sun, you might spot her wearing Persol sunglasses. These are quite popular among celebrities, and some of them can get up there in terms of price, costing more than $200. If you want to go on the cheaper end, you can find pairs for under $100, but they don’t quite look the same as what Saldana wears.
Jason Wu sunglasses are also quite popular among celebrities such as Saldana, especially the Jett frames. These $50 shades present more of a cat-eye type shape with pink tinted lenses, which can mix and match with a lot of different facial shapes and outfits. These pink lenses have become more popular in recent years because of that, especially when you see a popular celebrity like Saldana wearing them.
Out of the celebrities that have helped make eyeglasses more popular, Saldana is certainly among the leaders in that regard. It seems that she always has the right pair of glasses to match with her hair and outfit for any occasion. Most of us just settle for one pair of glasses and hopes that it matches, but Saldana hasn’t been afraid to mix up colors and styles.
Between the rectangular red glasses, the tortoiseshell red glasses and everything in between, Saldana has a way about her that just exudes confidence and charisma in everything that she does. Not afraid to be herself, Saldana doesn’t feel the need to wear contact lenses when it’s not for a movie role, and doesn’t mind not having to dress up everywhere she goes.
Many have said that they actually prefer Saldana with the specs, and it’s easy to see why. Even if we mostly associate her movie career as a series of characters that aren’t wearing glasses and too busy kicking butt to worry about their vision, the real Saldana likes the way she looks and wouldn’t change for anyone. At this point, she certainly doesn’t need to change and even has plenty of us looking to her for advice in a lot of different areas.
