Famous For In Time, "SexyBack"
Justin Timberlake was destined to be a star at a very young age, making different television appearances such as “Star Search” and “The Mickey Mouse Club”. Though he wouldn’t be seen for a few years, Timberlake then became an overnight household name thanks to the success of the boy band NSYNC. Timberlake was the youngest and most prominent member of the group, and they destroyed the charts thanks to hits like “Bye Bye Bye” and “It’s Gonna Be Me”.
In the early 2000s, Timberlake broke away from the group and decided to go solo in the music department, receiving accolades and selling millions of copies of his albums such as “Justified” and “FutureSex/LoveSounds”. Just when you thought that Timberlake was already on top of the world, he then branched out into acting, and has starred in films that include “The Social Network”, “In Time” and “Bad Teacher”. The multi-talented Timberlake is an absolute superstar, and you can add fashion symbol on top of all of the titles that he already has.
Even as good as his wife, actress Jessica Biel, looks when she’s wearing glasses, Timberlake still somehow seems to draw more attention to his specs. We hadn’t really seen Timberlake wearing glasses until he starred in “The Social Network”, and now it’s hard to imagine him without them. The black rectangular glasses look has been a staple for Timberlake ever since.
One of Timberlake’s signature looks has been the pure black Etnia Barcelona glasses. To match Timberlake’s look, you can expect to spend around $150. That’s a little more than your average pair of glasses, but it’s a good look for anyone that has a square jaw and prominent cheekbones.
You might have also noticed Timberlake wearing Gucci glasses before, which is a popular look when he’s on the red carpet. The discounted versions of the particular frame that he wears, the GG 1008, can cost only around $100, but the real deal is likely to cost around $250. It’s been a few years since their release, too, so it might be a bit difficult to find these frames.
Because he’s so well known for his style in glasses, Timberlake is one of the celebrities that’s also teamed up with glasses maker Warby Parker. The company started back in 2010 and provides cheaper yet fashionable glasses both online and in their dozens of stores. Even though Timberlake is more synonymous with eyeglasses compared to sunglasses these days, he did create a line of sunglasses with Warby Parker.
Upon the release of his 2018 album “Man of the Woods”, Timberlake helped create these new sunglasses for one song in particular called “Wave”. Each of these sunglasses are just $95, and are simply known as the Wave I, II or III. All three have the same rectangular shape that we typically associate with sunglasses, though the colors are very different.
Wave I has what’s known as a canyon tortoise color, while the other two hare in sea glass grey and jet black matte, respectively. All styles are available in both women’s and men’s designs, all costing the same. It’s turned out to be a lucrative partnership for both the company and Timberlake himself.
Going back to the regular eyeglasses, though, it turns out that Timberlake isn’t one of those celebrities that wears glasses just for fashion. Timberlake revealed that he has vision problems while he was chatting on “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. During the interview, Timberlake told the host that “I can see you, but I can’t see any of (the audience.” Timberlake is one of the many people that’s nearsighted (known as Myopia).
Timberlake wasn’t bugged too much about the fact that he started to wear glasses. Instead, he says that “I’ve embraced it. Obviously, I’ve made a commitment with these glasses. I’m good.” Seeing as how his career has only continued to rise since he first donned glasses, it must make it a lot easier to embrace it, especially when you add in people that note how good you look in glasses.
One thing that was interesting regarding Timberlake and his glasses was that he didn’t wear them during his Super Bowl halftime performance in February 2018. Being nearsighted, managing to make your way through an entire football stadium while singing can be pretty difficult, but Timberlake pulled it off. It’s possible that the pop superstar was actually wearing contact lenses for that massive performance.
Also in 2018, Timberlake made some more headlines when he was seen wearing large silver aviator frames with regular prescription lenses. It was a pretty bold choice that not even a lot of celebrities could pull off, but a lot of people seemed to love it. It’s not everyday you see aviator glasses without UV protection, after all.
Timberlake’s glasses are always going to be a topic of discussion as long as he’s on top of the world. Between people that want to compliment him for his stylistic choices or those that want to get the style for himself, there are a lot of articles that pop up whenever Timberlake is sporting a new pair of glasses. For the rest of us, we’ll just have to take in those little moments where somebody notices that we’ve gotten new glasses.
